about me and this place

Hi there, this is Hang Su (苏杭), SJTU ECE ‘19, UVA CS ‘21, SWE Algorand.

Please do treat here as an open discussion place, feel free to drop message here.

This place is called Nomad Note, with a subtitle called Someone’s Intermediate Representation.

In 2018 SP, I went to NCSU as an exchange student. It was the first time for me in US. I cherish that time so much cuz I learnt and experienced so much. By that time I gradually realize one strange thing

After emerging in another kind of culture for some time, one might feel difficult to define himself by his original national culture. In another word, he is losing his hometown.

It doesn’t mean I will be disloyal to my hometown. I just think I am kind-of Americanized. The way I treat the world is such a mixture of multiple cultures, the trait of my original culture on myself is fading, making me a nomad in this wild wide world.

As for the subtitle, it comes from a line in Programming Language Pragmatics:

We still say that a language is compiled if the translator analyzes it thoroughly (rather than effecting some “mechanical” transformation), and if the intermediate program does not bear a strong resemblance to the source. These two characteristics—thorough analysis and nontrivial transformation—are the hallmarks of compilation.

This also applies when we are acquiring new knowledges:

We still say that a knowledge is understood if the translator analyzes it thoroughly (rather than effecting some “mechanical” transformation), and if the concepts and understanding in your mind does not bear a strong resemblance to the source. These two characteristics—thorough analysis and nontrivial transformation—are the hallmarks of learning.

I am not really a good writer, but I am trying to produce some of my understanding. Some of the posts will be written in Chinese, which is my first language. I will try to keep 1 post per 3 weeks. While what I’ve said is really not true, just drop the message here to see if I can say anything…

Thanks for your time,

Anthony
